Welcome to Urinetown – the high school musical!
Oh my. The title… its horrible! Why would anyone ever do a musical called Urinetown? That’s disgusting!
Trust me, I’ve heard this time and time again since I announced that, *ahem*, Urinetown was the choice for the 2010 spring musical at St. Gregory. When I first listened to the soundtrack a few years back, I had the same reaction. I knew the show was popular, that it had won awards, but I needed to know why. The music was fun, the lyrics were clever, but there had to be more, right? When I finally saw a live production of the show, I understood. Urinetown is far more than musical window dressing- it addresses environmental concerns, government policies, socio-economic politics, and even throws in a love story to boot.

At first, I was kind of unsure about the content and story of Urinetown, but after listening to the soundtrack and reading more about it, I became really excited to be doing Urinetown at St. Gregory. The characters are all very unique and the music is amazing! The show has some more sad themes, but much of it seems comedic and fun. Can’t wait!

I love the idea of this blog!!!! Can’t wait to see it updated over time, and more importantly, I can’t wait for Urinetown to begin! I admit that the “What is Urinetown?” (yes, the song reference is intended!) was my first reaction when I heard of Urinetown a few years ago, but as soon as I started to research it this year and learned more about it, I loved the idea.
